The Situational Leadership® Model is developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard. The fundamental underpinning of this is that there is no single “best” style of leadership. It depends on the performance readiness (ability and willingness) of the individual or group they are attempting to lead or influence. For that they need a combination of two main focuses: task (x-axis) and relationship (y-axis), leading to four leadership styles: participating, selling, delegating and telling. The most effective style depends on the performance readiness of the employees in an organisation. Are they able or unable, willing or unwilling and confident or insecure?
